Poetry

Daytime Concubine

He would consume her

Body and soul

Pleasing the hunger

that ardently rose

within her loins

She could only

have him a few hours

after the sun

Not more—she wouldn’t ask

And as the thick rays

pierced through

her lonely chamber,

she prepared for

the duty ahead

She was going

to deny herself

the woeful pleasure

of being his

daytime concubine.
