Don’t wake me up.

I had joined them, those in uniform
Chanting the alphabets in key notes
Full of excitement to learn something new
Away from the fire that burnt my skin
Away from the flame that scarred my profile
I was one of them now, beaming with joy
Finally having to rub shoulders with them
I belonged to their world now
Where “respect” was in the pen
Where wealth lay in one’s ability to read
I was there, surrounded by wood extracts
And held the powerful object, Pen!
I no longer mooed with the cows in the fields
I no longer cackled with the hens in the back yard
I no longer had to run across streets to dodge
The crazy four wheeled monsters that screamed at me
I no longer had to escape the snapping jaws of death
By the hand of the terror cyclists
I carried a book on my head now
Eager to fill up my skull with it
Moooo…
Moooo…
But wait; are there cows in here too?
“Get up you lazy girl…your cows are straying”
I woke up with a startle…and realized i was covered in dust
And sweat, it was all a dream; a day dream
My zeal to step into the classroom was again a wish…
My place was with my cows, and hens and the birds
And ooh, watching my peers giggle and hop to school.
